After yet another fantastic #DOXLON Meetup last week, its that time again for the round up videos and slides! This time around, we were kindly hosted by Moonfruit, in their amazing oxford circus offices. Again the Meetup featured 3 x 20 minute talks, this time on Continuous Delivery. We were highly entertained by all speakers (including Stevens laptop!) and everyone learnt a lot. The Meetup group currently stands with 650 members, join it here in order to be at the next event!

Nathan Fisher – Snakes and Ladders Continuous Delivery Edition

Nathan Fisher – Snakes and ladders – Continuous Delivery edition

Nathan Fisher is a Senior Systems Engineer with a range of experience in release automation, configuration management, and production maintenance and monitoring. He started his IT career in 2000 and throughout his meandering path has worn many hats; support technician, developer, QA, consultant, and systems administrator. He was a senior DevOps consultant at ThoughtWorks where he focused on helping clients incorporate Continuous Delivery and a DevOps culture into their organisation.

In IT the ability to reliably and efficiently deliver ideas to market is no longer a “should have” but rather a “must have” for competitive advantage. Continuous Delivery provides stakeholders with a finer-grained control of the release schedule. This talk will discuss pitfalls and opportunities to seize on the path to reliable releases.

Matthew Skelton - How to choose tools for DevOps

Matthew Skelton - How to choose tools for DevOps - collaboration over automation

Matthew Skelton has been building, deploying, and operating commercial software systems since 1998. Co-founder and Principal Consultant at Skelton Thatcher Consulting Ltd, he specialises in helping organisations to adopt and sustain good practices for building and operating software systems: Continuous Delivery, DevOps, aspects of ITIL, and software operability. Matthew founded and leads the 700-member London Continuous Delivery meetup group http://londoncd.org.uk/, and instigated the first conference in Europe dedicated to Continuous Delivery, PIPELINE Conference http://pipelineconf.info/. He also co-facilitates the popular Experience DevOps workshop series http://experiencedevops.org/.

With an ever-increasing array of tools and technologies claiming to ‘enable DevOps’, how do we know which tools to try or to choose? In-house, open source, or commercial? Ruby or shell? Dedicated or plugins? It transpires that highly collaborative practices such as DevOps and Continuous Delivery require new ways of assessing tools and technologies in order to avoid creating new silos. Matthew Skelton shares his recent experience of helping many different organisations to evaluate and select tools to facilitate DevOps; the recommendations may surprise you.

The goal of the presentation is to give attendees some of the reasons why the current models for product development and operations might not be suitable in a rapidly changing, cloud-hosting, mobile enabled world.

Again, if you haven’t joined the Meetup group, check it out here, also a big thanks to Moonfruit for having us, and our friends at Linux Recruit to help organise the event.
