February DOXLON tackled scaling a massive IOT infrastructure, internal certificate management, and learnings from a DevOps-flavored journey to a culture of innovation. As usual, we learned from some of the best engineering teams out there: EVRYTHING, Smarkets and Ticketmaster.

SCALING AN IOT INFRASTRUCTURE FOR ONE BILLION CONNECTED AND TAGGED PRODUCTS

Depending on who you believe, the IoT should connect between 25 and 300 billion things by 2020. Wearing a DevOps and infrastructure hat, Dominique Guinard, CTO at EVRYTHNG, looked at the challenges when implementing the IoT, especially focusing on scale, security and privacy.

TLS EVERYWHERE MADE PRACTICAL, OR, MAKING X.509 HONOR THE GENEVA CONVENTION

The scope of the talk: how Smarkets, an online betting exchange, set up and automated their internal certificate management. Mika Boström, VPE, discussed the things they’re proud of, the things they need to improve, and the lessons they learned along the way.

TICKETMASTER: INNOVATING TO THE POWER OF LIVE

Innovation is in Ticketmaster’s DNA, from being the first to sell tickets online to providing APIs to their global ticketing ecosystem. Simon Tarry, Director of Engineering Strategy, took us on a journey through the unexpected, including learnings from internal and external hackathons to the relationship between DevOps and innovation. He shared some of the challenges and pitfalls Ticketmaster faced while attempting to drive for a true culture of innovation.
